|Regardless of religious affiliation, Christmas is one of the most beloved holidays worldwide – and not least in Nigeria. No matter the stress and strain the year may have brought, your spirits cannot help but soar at the sound of carols, the smell of roasting turkey (or ram), and the sight of excited children in new clothes eagerly looking for presents. As a one-time ‘Americanah,’ Christmas has always held a special meaning for me as it was the one time of the year I could guarantee would be spent in home sweet Nigeria, surrounded by my family, friends and more jollof rice than any New Year’s resolution could bear. It was with great happiness and nostalgia that I read the twelve stories in this collection which embodies the colour, emotions and reverence with which Christmastime was and is celebrated across our country. I hope that reading it brings you and your loved ones as much joy as it did those who worked to create it.
Christmas in Nigeria is a collection of short stories from around the nation. The project was put together by ZODML, a body founded with the vision of a Nigeria in which everyone has the ability to educate themself.
